Tasting test: Vintage Tunina has a bright straw color with golden reflections. The aroma is intense, broad, with great elegance and persistence, with hints of honey and wild flowers. It has a dry, soft, very harmonious taste, with exceptional persistence due to its particularly full body. It goes well with truffled first courses, with a great variety of fish dishes, especially baked and sautéed, but comes to be able to marry white meats as well. The memory of its encounter with a fresh salmon pad stuffed with Parmesan and artichokes is splendid. (Daniele Cernilli)
Notes: The first trials date back to the 1973 vintage and the first vintage put on sale under that name and label was the 1975 vintage. Historically, Vintage Tunina starts as a blend of the best grapes that are harvested late, depending on the vintage, about two weeks after the normal harvest on an area of about 16 ha of vineyard planted on Ronco del Fortino. The name Tunina refers to the former owner of the land on which the original vineyard is located and is dedicated to Casanova's poorest mistress, who was a housekeeper in Venice who incidentally was also named Tunina (Antonia).
With the 2015 vintage, Vintage Tunina celebrates its first 40 years.
Already in 1979 considered by Luigi Veronelli "The Mennea of Italian wines," then wine of the year 1997 vintage for Gambero Rosso and wine Oscar 1998 vintage for the Italian Sommelier Association.
In 2003 Silvio during a visit to the Abbey of Monreale in Palermo, inspired by the interior decorations of Arab-Norman architecture, enriched the label with a Greek developing around the hexagon.
In conclusion we quote from Cesare Pillon's article that appeared in Civiltà del bere of October 2000 "....ma the Vintage Tunina exceptional is exceptional in many other ways. No one has realized this until now, yet it is the most extraordinary meditation wine in existence. And it is not so in a passive sense (wine to drink while meditating), but in an active sense: it is a wine that makes you meditate....."
